For the full year 2015, 135 staffing and staffing-‐related businesses were sold or merged. This was the highest number of transactions since 2007. The IT staffing segment was the most active, with 36 announced transactions, followed by the commercial staffing segment, with 20 announced transactions.
Staffing-‐related transactions in 2015 made up almost 30% of transactions. This group includes firms such as Payrolling/EOR, Business Process Outsourcing/BPO, Screening, Recruitment Process Outsourcing/RPO and Professional Employer Organizations/PEO.
During 2015, privately-‐held strategic acquirers accounted for over 62% of all announced transactions. Publicly-‐owned strategic acquirers accounted for 25% of transactions. These buyers included AMN Healthcare Services, Inc. (NYSE: AHS), ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE: MAN), On Assignment (NYSE: ASGN), Korn Ferry Intl. (NYSE: KFY), Cross Country Healthcare Services (NASD: CCRN), CDI Corp. (NYSE: CDI) and TrueBlue, Inc. (NYSE: TBI). Private Equity Groups (PEG) accounted for almost 13% of transactions, which is more than double their percentage in 2014.
